Holland Code types · A of RIASEC
Artistic — The Creator
Artistic people like expressing themselves and working in unstructured settings where originality is valued. They work through art, music, writing, performance and design. They are often described as imaginative, expressive, independent and original.
What Artistic people enjoy
- Creating something new — visual, written, musical or performed
- Freedom in how the work gets done
- Working with ideas, images, words and sound
- Environments that welcome experimentation
Work environments that fit
Studios, stages, newsrooms, design firms and freelance life — places that judge the work itself, not the hours or the dress code.

Few people are a single type. Most Holland Codes combine two or three types — for example, an Artistic first letter with Social second describes someone who wants to do this kind of work with and for people. Your own code comes from your pattern across all 48 activities in the test.
The other five types
- Realistic — The Doer
- Investigative — The Thinker
- Social — The Helper
- Enterprising — The Persuader
- Conventional — The Organizer
Please note: interest types describe preferences, not ability or destiny. Educational resource only — see our method page.
